Successful project with the European Rural Parliament is now complete
by Deborah Clarke, Village Halls/ Rural Evidence Manager

ACRE was privileged to be able join representatives from 38 European countries in the town of Candas in Asturias, Spain in November 2019. The bi-annual gathering was the culmination of participation in the ROAD (Rural Opinion Advocacy and Development) project.

Two members of the ACRE team joined Holly Lombardo of NRTF (National Rural Touring Forum) and delegates from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to make up the UK contingent. News from the event is accessible on the dedicated event website

The UK element of the ROAD project considered how links can be maintained with rural communities across Europe post Brexit. We welcomed the support of the Republic of Ireland with this work and interaction with Latvia, Estonia, Denmark, Finland and Netherlands.

The Scottish Rural Parliament (SRP) hosted the ROAD workshop in Stranraer in November 2018. The full report of the SRP event can be read here and details of the workshop here Maintaining links with Europe. The workshop findings form part of the final report.

The final report for this piece of work can be accessed here European Rural Parliament ROAD Report

The two year ROAD project was financed by the Europe for Citizens programme and it was managed and implemented by the Finnish Village Movement Association in cooperation with ELARD, ERCA and PREPARE. ACRE is an active member of ERCA.

More information about the European Rural Parliament, about other themes within the ROAD and the advocacy work undertaken can be found on the official European Rural Parliament website.
