Oil buying scheme continues to deliver savings
8 May 2026
Rural Action Derbyshire’s oil buying scheme continues to help households manage the unpredictable heating oil market.
In recent months, the cost of heating oil has skyrocketed as a result of the conflict in the Middle East.
At one point, some households were paying nearly £800 for 500 litres of fuel, when it had previously only cost around £300.
On top of this, some suppliers had to stop taking new orders or cancel pre-made purchases, leaving many no choice but to buy again at the new higher price.
Against this worrying backdrop, RAD’s oil buying scheme has provided much needed reassurance to local families.
By ordering through one trusted local supplier, members benefit from a competitive and transparent price, which is shared in advance.
Members can then place an order directly with the supplier at a time of their choosing.
A snapshot taken on 1 May showed that RAD members buying 500 litres of oil were able to make a saving of around five per cent on the average benchmark price.
