ACRE and Rural Coalition respond to

Future of Rural England report

The government has unveiled its long-awaited Future of Rural England report, and ACRE and the Rural Coalition have given their take on the publication.

The report, which was published on 16 July, provides a roadmap of plans for providing rural communities with the services they need to thrive.

Produced with input from the Rural Taskforce, of which ACRE was an active member, the report also outlines new processes for ensuring future policies are properly rural-proofed and fully represent the interests of people and businesses outside of large towns and cities.

ACRE believe it has potential to deliver progress for rural communities.

Corinne Pluchino, Chief Executive of ACRE, said: “The report sets out clear actions, and we welcome the clear commitment to measure delivery and increase accountability.

“We are also pleased to see the commitment to ensure that rural communities can engage with and benefit from the plans for devolution.

“Together with Network colleagues, we look forward to working with Defra and across government to make sure these actions lead to tangible improvements for rural England, so local communities have the services and resources they need to secure equitable outcomes for everyone, and particularly those in greatest need.”

ACRE will now be focused on ensuring the plan of action is brought to life under the new ministerial team.
