Yorkshire community unites

to tackle climate change

It takes a community to tackle climate change, as was highlighted during a special one-off event held in Yorkshire last month.

More than 100 people from across the county took part in the Community Climate Conference, which was organised by Village Green, a partnership initiative led by Community First Yorkshire.

The event was an opportunity for community groups, local authorities and grassroots projects to come together, hold honest conversations and identify steps to help turn climate concern into practical action.

There was also a networking angle, with the conference bringing together many standalone community groups – all of which share the same aim – together under one roof.

Councillor Jenny Kent, Executive Member for Environment and Climate Emergency at City of York Council, said: “The people who get the work done are all of us individually and collectively.

“Whether you plant a tree in your own garden, lobby your school or talk to your workplace, we can all take action.”
