Response to a select committee enquiry into the provision of broadband and digital services
There is currently a strong reliance on market mechanisms to provide digital and mobile services and these can act as constraints when it comes to meeting the needs of rural communities and those living on lower incomes within them.
ACRE submitted this response to the EFRA Select Committee inquiry into provision of broadband and mobile digital services to rural areas. Subsequently, a commitment to high quality broadband to 100% premises by 2025 was made by the current administration in its manifestor for the 2019 General Election. This has since moved out to 2030 and Project Gigabit is now pursuing the objective to rougly this timescale.
