DHSC Major Conditions Strategy

ACRE has responded to a call for evidence from the Department of Health and Social Care on how to prevent, diagnose, treat and manage the 6 major groups of health conditions that most affect the population in England.

Our response, together with the Rural Services Network (RSN) and The National Centre for Rural Health and Care (NCRHC), stresses the need for policy makers to take into consideration the characteristics of the rural population and cautions against the tendency for specialist care to be centralised in urban areas. It also recommends putting in place a plan to recruit and retain healthcare and allied personnel in the countryside so that services can be provided closer to patients’ homes.
