Government unveils new
Neighbourhood Health Framework
8 May 2026
NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care have published the government’s new Neighbourhood Health Framework.
The document adds clarity to many of the plans and priorities that were first outlined in the 10-Year Health Plan for England, which was published last year.
Additionally, it describes how integrated care boards, local authorities, health and wellbeing boards and other partners should work together to develop and deliver neighbourhood services that are responsive to, and reflective of, the needs of local people.
While the framework does not contain a universal definition for what is meant by the term neighbourhood, it does explain that local decision-makers will need to allow for nuance and flexibility when planning services for their communities.
