Extra money to help pubs

remain centre of rural life

A national initiative that helps rural pubs to do more than just pull pints is getting a £3 million cash injection from the government.

Pub is the Hub supports pubs in rural and deprived areas to diversify their services and activities, helping the establishments to cement their status as vital local hubs.

Money from the scheme can be used by landlords to open up village stores and community cafes on their sites, or to invest in play areas and other facilities that have a positive impact on rural life.

The £3 million boost is part of a wider government grant scheme that offers financial support packages to independent cafes, restaurants and other hospitality venues.

John Longden, Chief Executive, Pub is the Hub, said: “This funding will help give long-term certainty to publicans to create new services and activities in their pubs which will deliver a wider social value and create a foundation for well-being in their local areas.”

Kate Dearden MP, Minister for the Future of Work, said: “Hospitality venues create jobs and help our towns and neighbourhoods to thrive.

“This funding will back local businesses to grow, boost opportunities for people across the UK and support growth in every part of the country.”
